Every birthing person deserves to feel supported, confident, and cared for. But that doesn’t always mean wanting a doula physically present in the room.
There are some families I speak with that are curious about doula care but hesitate because they:
Want to keep their birthing space private and intimate, with only their partner present
Live outside of my service area
Feel uncertain about having someone they don’t know physically in their space
Prefer to minimize the number of people around for personal, cultural, or health reasons
That’s why I’m excited to offer FREE virtual doula support for families with Medi-Cal insurance coverage. This allows you to access expert, compassionate support—on your own terms.
Virtual support means I'm with you via phone, text, or video call, coaching you through labor and helping your navigate each stage of birth. Whether you're at home or in the hospital, you can lean on me for guidance, reassurance, and comfort techniques - all without adding extra people to your space.
For those with Medi-Cal insurance coverage, including Kaiser Medi-Cal, IEHP Medi-Cal, or Molina Medi-Cal, my virtual package offers:
Labor prep, birth plan creation, and prenatal Q&A sessions. Medi-Cal covers up to 9 combined prenatal/postpartum visits, so rest assured, you have plenty of opportunity to get prepared for your birth at no cost to you.
On-call support from early labor through delivery. Medi-Cal covers labor and birth support, with no prior authorization needed.
Real-time comfort coaching (breathing, movement, coping tips), as well as evidence-based informational support and helping you achieve the birth you desire.
Emotional reassurance and advocacy guidance. Listen, it can be hard to know if you are making the right decisions for you and your baby, especially under the stress and intensity of one of the biggest life experiences you will ever have. Knowing you have expert doula support on the other end of a phone is a relief and can feel like a weight lifted off your shoulders.
Postpartum follow-up. In addition to the 9 prenatal/postpartum visits available, Medi-Cal covers two extended 3-hour postpartum visits, so there's plenty of opportunity to review your birth experience, discuss postpartum recovery and community resources.
Here are examples of scenarios where virtual doula support may be beneficial for you:
